The second thing that happened today, was that several FCS teams hung around in games while clearly over matched Arkansas won 49-24 to Jacksonville st, Liberty lost a close one to Wake Forest 20-17, Indiana st lost to in state rival Indiana 24-17 (OK maybe not that over matched), William & Mary lost a heart breaker in the end 7-6 to Maryland, and Northern Iowa, famous for their sweet 16 appearance in the NCAA tourney a couple years ago, lost to Wisconsin 26-21. I was surprised at the close scores, especially in the Wisconsin, Maryland, and Arkansas games.
Thirdly...THE UPSETS! There were 3 big FCS-related upsets today.
Memphis, new tenants of the Big East starting next year, lost a game to lowly Tenn-Martin 20-17 in the final seconds at home. UT Martin was a 5-6 team last year and it seems maybe the Big East should reconsider and invite UT Martin instead. It is unknown how much Memphis paid to lose their opener today. New Memphis Tigers' coach Justin Fuente lost his first game and joins the other 2 coaches on this list on all losing their first games with their new teams.
Texas State, 34.5 to 37 point underdogs, playing their first FBS game ever, defeated Houston, a team that went 13-1, defeated Penn st 30-14 in the Ticketcity bowl, and ended the year ranked 14th/18th in the coaches/ap polls. Although technically not a FCS team anymore, Texas St's win is still very noteworthy as they were as green as possible in division 1a. The game wasn't even close! Final score? 30-13. There are few teams that I have found that won with a greater point spread. The cougars couldn't convert on third down in the 2nd half and Texas St got behind Marcus Curry and rode him for 2 TDs and 131 yards on 14 carries.

And Pittsburgh, which by some computer estimates, should've won by 30 points, LOST to Youngstown St, 31-17 at home. Not even close. And with that, the Paul Chryst era gets off on a rocky start. Pittsburgh had the talent, but once again, couldn't put a win together and is probably the most embarrassing loss this weekend. Street, Sunseri, and Graham have a lot to work on this year. Youngstown State has a lot to be hopeful for this year and in the future as they look to put their 5 loss season behind them. This is clearly one way of doing that. This win marks Youngstown state's first victory over a BCS foe, their 20th victory of a FBS team and their first since 2000, which was against Kent State. Kurt Hess added 176 yards through the year and Andre Stubbs add 176 all-purpose yards and 2 scores. Pitt Loses ROTFL
Andre Stubbs has a 13 yard run that's good for 6.

Note: All 3 upsets here were at the favorites' home stadium. And with the 2 FCS upsets before today and the 2 tonight (Texas State is technically now D1), We are already at 4 FCS wins over FBS teams. That happened 6 times for the entire 2011 season.
